Durham Sports Club Scholarship Foundation

The Durham Sports Club Scholarship Foundation exists to help fund the Durham Sports Club’s scholar-athlete scholarships and related awards. The short-term goal of the Foundation is to raise $100,000, with the hopes that the interest and dividends from this money will allow the Club to present even more scholarships and awards.  The Foundation was established in 2007, with then-President Harold Strawbridge taking on the project of creating the Foundation and getting it approved as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.  Obviously, the goal of the Durham Sports Club and the Durham Sports Club Scholarship Foundation is to do more when it comes to helping our community, especially our youth with our Scholar-Athlete Award scholarships.   Tax-deductible contributions are greatly appreciated!

In past years, the scholarships that have been awarded at the Scholar-Athlete Awards Night and the money donated to schools have come from the “general account” of the Durham Sports Club.  Since the Club does not perform any true “fund-raising” activities, this account is funded primarily by membership dues.  Obviously, the Durham Sports Club would like to do more when it comes to helping our community, especially our youth with our Scholar-Athlete Award scholarships.

In 2007, after much discussion, Harold Strawbridge almost single-handedly took on the project of creating the Durham Sports Club Scholarship Foundation, a not-for-profit organization formed with the hope of raising sufficient funds such that the dividends and interest earned from the Foundation would sustain and increase the scholarships and other awards that the Durham Sports Club presents.  Obviously, it will take time for the Foundation to get to the point that it can sustain (and hopefully increase) the awards that the Durham Sports Club presents, and until that time, the “general account” will fill the void.
